(Sing along to UB40s ‘Red Red Wine’)
Rich, dark, coffeeeeeee
Goes to my headddddd
Makes me believe that I
Can conquer the worldddddddd…
This is so true. It is Friday morning, I have my coffee sitting at my right, conveniently next to my mouse so that instead of getting back to work I can just reach out and take in some warm and inviting goodness instead. Puh, work. On a Friday? Whatever.
Coffee is natural, coffee is fun, coffee is best when it’s ‘One on One.’
Ok so I’m quoting George now, but really coffee IS natural, and it IS fun! And for the other, well of course…
I’m rambling now, I know. I’m psycho like this. I believe my Friday morning coffee increases my focus and heightens my work efficiency by about 40%. A shame that the only work I do is actually not work, instead my various writing projects.
(I have this post, I have another post in the back of my mind, and I have another journal post to write… ahh! The words are coming at me and I have to get them down!)
Yes. I believe my word frequency increases by approximately 30% after a feel-good caffeine kick-start. I have no research to support these statistics, only my mad mind estimating.
Despite all this extra efficiency and keen alertness, I couldn’t for the life of me work out a math riddle this morning. And my simple equations, I freaking know, my friend:
A work colleague asked me to buy him a muffin from the cafĂ© where I buy my cappuccino from. My regular coffee is $3.40. He gave me $5.00. When I bought the muffin and coffee, the guy said he’d give me the special price (of course) of $5.00. First I thought, ‘just the muffin?’ until I realised he meant BOTH, combined. That IS special.
So my task was to calculate the muffin price, right, to give my work colleague the correct change back. So $5.00 - $3.40 (being the price of my muffin, so far so good) = $1.60. No! $3.40 being the price of my coffee, damn it!
Ok so if his muffin cost $1.60, $5.00-$1.60=…$3.40. Fuck me. I gave him $1.60. I couldn’t freaking work out the equation standing there half an hour ago with my coffee warming my head. I mean my hand. (Argh) On paper it makes sense…
Ahh! I didn’t even do that right. I gave him $3.60, not $1.60. See? Even then I overpaid him 20 cents. Whatever man, whatever…
I’m so fucking confused right now. Even putting it on paper doesn’t make much sense.
See what coffee does? It makes me right, like all good, and makes me forget my math’s shit…
(The above were two obvious deliberate spelling/grammar mistakes, like duh, like as if I would ever… :) )
This is Me, expressing myself to You. If at times you feel like a counsellor, it's because I find your presence therapeutic. If at other times you feel like you know too much about me, you probably do. And if you find that you enjoy my musings, stick around for the ride.

:/
I had to try and refrain from naming the title of this post ‘Ha ha.’ It seems the Murphy’s law fairies are particularly aware of my blogger habits, and so whenever I take especial glee in a holiday, nice weather or having heaps of time (I think a previous post was called ‘Beating Time’) they rain shit and gloom upon me until I have anything but a smile on my face.
Hence the above expression.
Therefore, this post will be written in the most even-tempered of manners.
I have a few points of general ‘fond’ feelings today.
Firstly, it is Friday. This day of the week takes my heart to accelerated heights and gives me thoughts of a fantasy-like nature.
Secondly, it is the last day of Winter. Hence, tomorrow the animals begin to nest, amongst other natural-occurring and temperature-improving happenings that infer a more pleasing time of year. (Hold back throwing arms in air, hold back throwing arms in air…)
Thirdly, I have a 3-day weekend. This is most satisfactory to my life situation, and gives me time to – tee hee – NO. Stop that. It is very pleasurable.
Lastly, this morning I believed it to be Thursday, if only for 5 seconds. This sensation is on par with waking on a Saturday morning, thinking it to be a workday, and then discovering with gladness that it is not. This too, is encouragingly good.
These 4 points give me an above average level of ease. This is nice. This is most delightful.
Lovely.

Prince did it to me
Really he did. I saw him a couple of weeks ago in his ‘Welcome to Australia’ tour, and he was gobsmackingly awesome. So good in fact, that I got sick, like Red and I did years earlier when we first saw Justin.
Yep, once again, we both got sick days later, on the same exact day. I started with muscle aches and shivers on a Friday afternoon, progressing to a temperature, that went away overnight but was replaced with a sore throat, runny nose and coughing.
There’s something so evil about getting sick on a Friday afternoon. It’s a sure-fire way to screw up your weekend.
Now, more than a week later after getting sick, I still have the same annoying, persistent, dry, cough-or-you’ll-die-choking-on-nothing-mofo cough, which is at its worst at night. In the morning it’s decent, but assisted by its good friend flem, which helps it by irritating the f$%^ out of my throat even further, making me cough incessantly but to no avail because the thick flem stays where it is, lodged in my throat, it is almost as bad in the morning because I need to blow my nose ‘til my brain hurts, or stand over the sink gagging and hacking.
This one such morning, I started coughing here early at work, to the point where I had to run away to the bathroom: I just couldn’t take it. I started spitting into the sink, trying to get the flem out, and saw a reddish colour blended into the spit.
Blood. I saw it a couple of days ago as well, but dismissed it as nothing. Seeing it again, I’m still leaning towards the ‘nothing’ theory, nothing meaning the blood is from my irritated throat. I have seen my doctor (albeit last week) and I’m hoping it goes away. Even google was surprisingly encouraging, when I typed in ‘coughing up blood from a sore throat:’ a LOT of searches came up, rather than the usual, ‘You Will Die’ ones when you try net self-diagnose.
People. Never Net Self-Diagnose.
There has been one fantastic upside to all this spluttering, blood-inducing, hacking business. Whenever I get sick like this, and then the cold progresses to my throat, there are a couple of days – well, maybe it’s more like a day and a half – where I get the most fantastic voice.
I love it. My voice is completely screwed up, cracking, breaking, sometimes no noise actually comes out if it’s REALLY bad. There’s a mix of huskiness, hoarseness, and no matter how loud, soft, quick or slow I talk, it stays there, sexy, teasing, like I should be working late night phones. I love it I love it I love it.
I started getting it late Monday, then all day yesterday I just wanted to yap on to hear myself talk, and now today, I can tell it’s going away. It’s just the most fantastic tone. So crackly and full of character, mystery, drama.
I might get (un)lucky and get the voice again when George Michael visits in November

WOW.
So yesterday I was all pathetic and shit, but today I've turned over a new leaf. It does not fail my notice that although I try to live my life in the highest regard and in line with the law of attraction, that I still have monumental DOWN days. I think the fact that I do try so hard to better my life, that it indeed causes these seriously depressing moments. When I'm high, I'm flying, and when I'm down, well.... I won't finish that.
Also, the fact that I get up so early during the week, leaves me feeling drained: even though I feel it physically, the emotinal side takes it toll. Does it ever. By the end of the week I can be crabby, over-sensitive, and finding fault in the smallest of things. Like the last couple of days.
When a few things don't go to plan, or when a few things get to me, they combine into a rolling ball of moss, accelerating down the steep hill of my brain, until finally, when it hits the bottom with a large bang, I end up broken. Completely broken, shattered, and in a deep ditch of dirt.
But, aided today by my true and trusted friend 'proper coffee' I am definitely looking up.
:)
Just send Hubbie this message: "Hi, I'm Miss S (group says 'Hi Miss S') and I have a coffee addiction."
I'm a bit whacked out today, being a Friday and all. As you can probably tell.
So I'm here to talk positive, and to put a bit of perspective on something I mentioned yesterday.
So yes. I didn't ask for a pay rise. I didn't prepare myself, the night before it I had other heavy things on my mind, and it led to me feeling completely unprepared for the work review I had. I'm not usually like that, I'm super-organised, and like Hubbie coached to me last night, I have to learn from the experience.
Yes I will learn. I guess it's just hard because I'm not even sure what was the right thing to do: to ask or not to ask? That IS the question. However I have to believe that I did the right thing, and if not, that I will get another opportunity at monetary rewards, if not through this work, then through another (hint, hint, clears throat loudly 'ahem, book *cough* my story *cough*).
:)
And one more thing. What I was supposed to talk about yesterday.
I get cranky at times, when I notice people staring at me. It just really annoys me. Sure, look, glance around. But don't continue to ogle me, or to totally stare me down into a hole as I walk on by. I don't care what the reasons are, I find it rude and slightly intimidating to know someone is totally giving me the once over.
Though a couple of mornings ago, walking to work 6:30 in the morning, I saw two tradies approaching me from the other side. I knew how I was dressed, and knew that it may get some notice. I wasn't dressed inappropriately or anything, but you know when the clothes you wear portray a certain look? Anyway, I kepy my eyes straight ahead as I walked on by, being careful not to make any eye contact, because hey, you can't encourage them in anyway. Who knows what might happen then.
Even though my eyes were forward, I could see them looking at me as they walked past. And I heard from one of them, lowly, "Wow."
Wow. I thought about it some more as I kept walking, wondering whether I was upset at being ogled at again. But you know what? I took it for what it was, as a freaking damn fantastic compliment. WOW. I think that's one of the best compliments ever. One word, so simple. Wow.
As I said to Hubbie, when I'm pregnant one day, I'm sure I won't have guys whistling, tooting their car horns or making remarks about me when I walk by, so I'll take all the Wow's I can right now.
I'm going to take it in, and appreciate it as much as possible.
What a wonderful, brilliant, spectacular, mood-lifting, heart-warming post to get me into the weekend :-D

There's something in the air
I haven't written in this blog for soooo long. So I guess there's no time like the present to let you know about the weather today.
Waking up, though we're still only a few days into Winter (and I remind you that it is a Melbourne Winter which means it started in April) I actually felt on the warm side, and didn't need to grab at my nightgown as soon as I stepped out of bed.
I thought to myself "naughty weather, you can't trick me," and still dressed appropriately for what I felt would be a cold day: 17 degrees, bit breezy with isolated showers. I didn't go over-the-top with a long jacket or anything, we just came off a few days of cold but sunny 19 degree weather.
And maybe that's what it is. Coming off of those sunny winter days, although still cold, the air had a warm tinge to it this morning as I walked into work, magenta beanie, oversized white wooly scarf protecting me from any bayside breezes that may come my way. But no jacket of course.
And as I sit here at my desk, I have that feeling. You know the one you get when you're in the midst of summer, and suddenly a cold change comes along, with rain and wind and all? I've got that feeling, that sense that a change is near, a 180 gust that will move with it all nature, people and events. A change is around the corner, and it's unexpectedness and unpredictability is a most welcome relief.
But then again it could just be because today is Friday and everyone is super relaxed:)
P.S I'm up to chapter 5 of my book! (Fist pump, go me!)
P.P.S Stay tuned to this space, as I will soon be filling you in on perhaps the biggest of the past month's events, the one including THE MOUSE. Why should I keep this story to myself, when I could be sharing my spent pain, agony, and paranoia with you?

The best laughs come out of your husband doing the grocery shopping!
Hahahahahaha, I'm still laughing and I've got a bad case of the giggles.
I'm making two cakes over tonight and tomorrow morning, to bring to a 1st birthday and a christening that hubbie and I are going to tomorrow.
He has the day off today so I wrote him a list of items I need to make my cakes.
LOL
He just called me only minutes ago, asking "I can't find the ..... dis-in-te-grated coconut."
Oh my gosh, kill me with laughter. I corrected him and said "dessicated coconut" giggling slightly, and helping him through the rest of the list, by telling him which aisle would most likely have what.
Again, when he tried to read my shopping list he said "disintegrated," and as he was looking then for shredded coconut, another type I need for my recipe, and looking at all the different styles they had, he was reading them out to me again, and AGAIN said "disintegrated coconut," after I'd kept correcting him.
Laughter central, I can not stop giggling!
Disintegrated.... LOL. If it was disintegrated there would be nothing there!
Hahahahahahaahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaahahahahahahaha
What a fantastic way to spend your Friday morning at work, laughing at your hubbie!!!!

Summer is your Saturday, so today must be Spring
Driving to work today, I started to think about how great it was that it was Friday. Isn't it odd, how the whole anticipation of Friday afternoon and the weekend, the whole lead-up to it, is actually in some ways better and more thrilling than experiencing the actual weekend?
I think it's due to our wild imaginations. In our heads we have a multitude of plans and ideas, people to see, places to go and things to do, and the thought of all the endless possibilities create pure excitement. More often than not, we don't even get to do half of what we planned to do, then we get to Sunday, and as quickly as the excitement welled up, just as quick does it diminish when you see what's around the corner.
The start of the working week.
It's much like the seasons.
I love summer. Love, love, love it. I would rather be caught up in a boiling hot stinking day than be freezing my absolute you-know-what off. It is soooooo uncomfortable when it is cold. Yet when it's warm you can relax, read a book, tan, go for walks, shopping, eat out....... not that you can't do that in horrible weather (hehe) but you know, the wind and rain sort of ruins it. And in summer, well the sun shines on everything you do. :)
So I got to thinking. It's not the most mind-blowing of metaphors, but it works for me. The end of the working week is much like the anticipation of summer (well for those that favourably anticipate it.)
Friday is like the end of Winter, start of Spring, where you start to get that crisp Sunny weather, but it's still cold enough to remind you that it's not swimming weather yet.
Not that it matters that you have to wait, because you're already excited! It's here, it's here! Just knowing it's close, it's around the corner, is all you need. So you start to plan what you'll do on all your sunny days off, where you'll go, where you'll walk, eat, shop and just sun around. You make all of these plans, and it puts a right big smile on your face. :)
Then suddenly, before you know it, it's Summer! Like your Saturday, you go about doing all the big things you planned for, and hey, you do enjoy yourself! But somewhere in the back of your mind, you're thinking "something unfavourable is just around the corner," and as much as you try to put it out of your mind, you can't seem to forget the fact that the chill is approaching, in both literal and figurative terms. But time moves too quickly. All these things you plan on doing, well you're lucky if you do half of them. Time ticks and slips away through your fingers and you suddenly start to wish you had more time. But because you don't know a crazy old scientist with a DeLorean time machine, you can't really do much about it.
Quicker than you can click your fingers, Autumn is here. Sunday and Autumn are reflective times, when you look back at the good times you've just had, and try brace yourself for what's ahead. You try to enjoy it as well, hey it's not that bad, not yet, but to no avail. You've past the best and now the only way to look is forward.
And then it comes. Winter again. Monday morning.
It's a cycle, that we perform every week, every year. Despite not getting anything really done, and despite being disappointed when Monday comes around, we still allow ourselves to get excited over and over again, knowing in the back of our minds that we'll soon be disappointed.
But we're human. We need something to look forward to.
In the end, all you can do is look forward to Friday again, so the sun can start to shine on you.
